Two-day dressage tourney

A pleasant two days of dressage competition was experienced at the John McEwuig’s dressage tournament, held in South Hagley Park. Ground conditions were good after recent rain, although a thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain marred the closing stage.

Championships were awarded in the various grades, based on a points system, taken over the two days of competition. Winners of these were:

In the World Tarmac series, New Zealand competed in category B for the first time. The series was won by Mark Crean of Hawarden, on Missouri. Richard Hampton (Rakaia) on Rich Hill, was second and Colin Mclntosh (Taupo) on Real McCoy, third.

Crean won the world series with six clear rounds in 1755, from Columbia’s Diego Villejor, riding Camtestre, six clear rounds in 181.35. Third was Kuwait's Sami Al-Mudaf, riding Ballendine, four penalty points, in with a total of 193.085, and fourth was Hampton with a total of 1955.

The Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Horse Society will host a jumping show for young riders, 21 years and under, on December 21 at the Kaiapoi Pony Club grounds, South Eyre Road.
