Birthday of Mayor, and New Brighton
Sir Hamish Hay will play surveyor for a few hours tomorrow when he re-enacts the naming of New Brighton 125 years ago. To mark the anniversary 12 community groups have built a 3km riverside walk which begins at Bower Avenue and links with an existing walkway from South Brighton.
Sir Hamish, whose birthday is tomorrow, will take the new walk down the river, then come back upstream by boat to the Bower bridge. His river voyage will recreate the arrival in 1860 of surveyors
Sir Hamish will unveil a Elaque near the Bower ridge before an old-time family picnic begins in Bower Park.
