Arkarita visits top Sydney sire
By ALEX McMILLAN The former talented racebitch, Arkarita, has returned to Christchurch after being covered by the Sydneybased stud sensation, Glider’s Son.
Glider’s Son, winner of the 1982 New South Wales Greyhound of the Year award, amassed stake earnings of almost $60,000 in a short racing career and is proving to be a very successful sire, having left a number of metropolitan winners this season.
Arkarita, the winner of the 1982 New Zealand
Championship and the 1983 South Island Championship at Queen Elizabeth II Park, came through the trip very well, according to her owner, Mr Peter Kane, who trained the bitch throughout her highly successful career.
Arkarita broke the Christchurch 560 m track record in her South Island Championship triumph, posting 33.615, a time not matched since. Her first litter, by the Auckland sire, Metal Band, are now 14 months of age and their progress in the new year will be followed with interest.
