Japanese contest winners
An Auckland man, Mr Philip Chen, won a return airfare to Tokyo and a week’s accommodation when he was placed first in the South Island Promotion Association’s “Speak Japanese” contest last evening. The contest attracted entries from throughout New Zealand. Its judges, Mrs Shoko McFarlane and Mr Jun Tomomga, were impressed with the speakers’ high standards and the level of competition. The secondary school section was won by Andrew McGeorge, of Shirley Boys’ High School Two Christchurch students, Amanda Smith and Sadie Birch, were second and third in the open section.
Second placing in the secondary school section went to Jane Coughlan, of St Margaret’s College, Christchurch. Kerry Laing, of Awatapu College, Palmerston North, was thiri?
