Obituary Mr S. McMillan
A leading pre-World War H Sydney trotting trainerdriver, Sutton McMillan, died last week. Mr Sutton, who was most prominent in the period before night trotting started in New South Wales in 1949, prepared the brilliant 1940 s mare, Miss Lawnham (by Lawn Derby), to win 16 races, while One Step and War Step were other good winners for him.
Mr McMillan drove or rode six winners on sevenevent programmes twice in his early days in trotting at Young, where he started his career in 1915. He moved to Sydney in 1932 and at the end of his driving career in the 1960 s drove 18 successive winners in Queensland, lost one, then won two more, giving him 20 winners from 21 drives, before returning to Sydney. ,
