Y.F.C. drafting results
The Y.F.C. lamb drafting competition at the Canterbury Show, held as part of the week-long World Congress of Young Farmers, proved very popular, according to the organisers. In the GR measurements section the first professional was F. R. Butt of the Meat
Board and second equal was V. Schikker and R. S. Irvine, both of Wrightson NMA. In the Y.F.C. class the first was V. Best of Marlborough, second M. Sibley of Shirley Boys High School and third equal W. Dalzell, Kaikoura and J. McLachlan, Ellesmere.
The public GR class was won by J. Studholme, Hinds, followed by D. J. Michael, Dunsandel, and C. M. Abbott, Darfield. V. Schikker also won the
professionals section of the carcase weight estimations; M. Dobson, of Marlborough, won the Y.F.C. weight test and in the public section J. R. Mitch, of Clinton, and P. Hope, of Hawarden, were first equal.
For the record the true results were: lamb one, 3mm GR, 15kg carcaseweight; lamb two, 4mm GR, 14.5 kg; lamb three, 6mm, 14kg; lamb four 2mm, 14kg; lamb five, 3mm, 13.5 kg. All lambs graded YM.
