Air N.Z. to increase flights

PA . Wellington The frequency of Air New Zealand services between Auckland and the Cook Islands will double from April, the Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr Prebble, says. He said that he had discussed with the Islands’ Minister of Transport, Mr Pupuke Robati, the future of the Cooks’ main shipping service.

Two services a week fly in each direction, one a Boeing 747, the other a Boeing 737. The frequency would be

boosted to four 737 services each way in April, he said. From May Air New Zealand would serve the Cook Islands four times a week in each direction with its new 220-seat Boeing 767. Northbound, there would be direct flights departing Auckland on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the fourth flight, staging through Nadi on Tuesdays.

The aircraft would depart the same days southbound from Rarotonga, which lay the other side of the dateline.
