Security adviser resigning?

NZPA-Reuter Washington

Robert McFarlane has told President Reagan he intends to leave his post as White House national security adviser and Mr Reagan accepted the resignation, the “Washington Post” reported yesterday. The former United States marine, aged 48, has been rumoured to be on the verge of quitting for several days because of clashes with the White House Chief of Staff, Donald Regan, over

management style and Mr Regan’s increasing involvement in foreign policy. The "Post,” referring to unidentified Administration sources, said that Mr McFarlane told the President in California during the Thanksgiving holiday last week that he was leaving because he wanted to spend more time with his family. A formal announcement of his departure and replacement is expected later this week, the newspaper said.
