Rough passage
NZPA-AP Cape Town
Yachtsmen faced galeforce winds and heavy seas off the Cape of Good Hope as the second leg of the Whitbread round-the-world yacht race was scheduled to begin yesterday.
Meanwhile, organisers of the race said if the political situation in South Africa deterioriates any further,
Cape Town probably will be excluded as a stopover point.
The South African Broadcasting Corp, quoted Rear Admiral Charles Williams, the chairman of the race committee, as saying the race was being reviewed, and Australia and the eastern United States were being considered as possible landing points.
