323 now has 4WD
Faithfully following in the tracks of a number of European car-makers, Mazda has launched a high-per-formance, four-wheel-drive version of its new 323 hatchback. This two-door, fourseater has a turbocharged 1.6-litre, 16-valve engine that is said to develop llOkW. The car features a Japanese-developed viscous coupling in the permanent four-wheel-drive system.
The Japanese company is also considering the introduction of a 4 w.d. version of its new Porsche-like RX7, possibly with a new threerotor rotary engine. However, this car would be an homologation special for Group B rallying and not for general sale.
