Strong demand for store lambs

Recent rain ensured a continued strong demand for store lambs at the Addington market yesterday. A reasonably big yarding of close to 13,000 mixed-quality lambs met with a strong inquiry, although prices were down about JI on last week’s sale.

The sale attracted mostly Canterbury buyers. A lot of small lambs were offered, and there were no top lines of Romneys. Corriedale ram lambs sold for up to J 16.80. A small yarding of adult sheep, made up mostly of ewe hoggets, was offered. Romneys fetched up to $22.20, Coopworths, $19.50, and Corriedales, $17.30. Lamb sales included: A. E. and M. E. The top price of $594 was paid for seven Hereford cows and calves from Hawarden. Four Simmental-cross steers sold at $562. More than 800 yearlings and 200 adults were offered.
