The longest drive competition will be measured using electronic field equipment manufactured by Wild Heerbrugg of Switzerland, Wild revolutionised the entire field of surveying throughout the world six decades ago with the compact T2 optical theodolite. Now by means of extensive integration of optics, precision engineering and electronics the modern surveying instrument becomes a complete data acquisition system in the field. A Tilooo electronic theodolite combined with aDI 1000 electronic distance meter reads out horizontal and vertical angles electronically and at the touch of a button, the micro-processor computes the horizontal distance. Northrop will use this equipment to catalogue the longest drive Krom the eighteenth tee at the Open.
