Committee of ‘pushy’ people

PA Wellington The Public Service Association is forming a committee of “pushy” people to press for improvements for clerks working in Government staff and salary sections. The move comes after a meeting of about 130 clerks in Wellington last month.

A P.S.A. newsletter said the clerks were suffering from high job turnover, a limited career structure, excessive overtime, and inadequate training. The meeting selected “articulate, intelligent people, a bit on the pushy side,” to represent the clerks, the P.S.A. said. Further members were being sought. “This committee has to be on its toes because the members being represented have had enough,” the newsletter said.

“There will be no easing up with a few sops being offered by the employers. The clerks and their committee mean business. This trip goes to the end of the line.”
