Symposium on fossils
A renowned New Zealand palaeontologist, Dr Norcott Hornibrook, points out an illustration proof for his new handbook on microfossils to the president of the Association of Australasian Palaeontologists, Professor Bruce Rennegar. More than 70 people from Australia and New Zealand are attending an association symposium at the University of Canterbury this week, the
first to be held in New Zealand by the association. The symposium has been named after Dr Hornibrook in recognition of his research on New Zealand fossils. Dr Hornibrook has
published more than 150 papers on the subject, and retired in 1981 after 42 years with the New Zealand Geological Survey. The symposium will end tomorrow but many members will visit various parts of New Zealand afterwards on three field trips, and return to attend the Geological Society of New Zealand’s annual conference at the university next week.
