The video library of Mr Movie, Ltd, at 319 Stanmore Road, will celebrate its first birthday this week-end. The stock has trebled during the library’s first year of operation, and all the staff are now “well versed” in what it contains, according to Mr Ross Griffiths (“Mr Movie”) who is one of the partners in the venture. The small entrance to the store belies the large size of the collection housed in a premises of nearly 79 sq m. The tapes — carefully and personally selected by Mr Movie — are arranged in clearly marked categories around the walls, and there are multiple copies of popular tapes so that there is no long waiting list for any one title. The library provides for all family viewing, and the emphasis is on supplying tapes that are in demand. As well as recent box office successes, the library offers a range from wellknown favourites through to movies that are less familiar, and it includes “the largest selection of Warner
Brothers titles in the South Island.” The categories in which the titles are arranged are: new releases; classics; action; Westerns and war, horror, music; adult; drama; comedy; science fiction; and “kiddies’ corner.” The display in the front window is changed frequently to show the “big ones” that are becoming available. The tapes are loaned out in protective covers and with photocopies of the original “slicks” to give viewers information such as contents, running time, and actors and actresses.
Membership of the library is through a life subscription for which the charge is $25. A personal identity card bearing a photograph of the customer is issued for each subscription, so that only the customer can use the card — a protection in case it is lost or stobr Members ca: jook in advance, Mr Movie also sells bb jc tapes. The hour of opening are 9 a.m. to p.m. from Sunday to Thursday inclusive, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The returning time for all videos is 1 p.m.
