Off ‘Sunday', ‘On Line’
PA Wellington The broadcaster Rodney Bryant has been moved from the TVNZ current affairs programme “Sunday” and will return to the “On Line” television talkback programme he fronted in 1984, to be produced again next year in Auckland. The former radio broadcaster and now Eyewitness News reader, Lindsay Perigo, who was the secondstring interviewer on “Sunday” this year, will become the show’s main interviewer. The “Listener” editor and former Eyewitness News reader, David Beatson, will front the programme and do some interviews, working on a parttime basis. Though well respected as
a Christchurch regional news presenter and for his work with “On Line,” Bryant has not proved popular with viewers in his role on “Sunday." The programme itself has had its problems matching the success of its early predecessor, “Newsmakers,” with lan Fraser. The controller of television news, current affairs and sport, Bruce Crossan, said TVNZ’s new satellite facilities meant a lunchtime news programme would begin next year. The show will start at 12.30 p.m. with half an hour of overseas news, followed by “On Line.” “‘On Line’ was a very popular programme and we have been keen to re-intro-
duce it and have Rodney Bryant back as host. He was excellent on the programme.” Asked if he thought Bryant had been better suited to “On Line” than “Sunday,” Mr Crossan said that was “a matter of opinion.”
