FCL may list in Tokyo
PA Auckland Fletcher Challenge, Ltd, may list its shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, said the chairman, Sir Ronald Trotter. The company had been investigating the value of a listing for the last six months and expected to offer its shares within the next 18 months. Sir Ronald returned from Japan on Sunday where he led a Fletcher Challenge
team on a good-will mission. Several leading securities houses had approached him and invited FCL to list on the Tokyo exchange, he said. “The market for foreign shares is opening up in Japan. There are only 20 foreign companies listed,” “But we are not rushing into this. There are considerable costs involved in the promotion and fees connected with a listing and we are conducting a study of how best to approach the subject. We could list tomorrow if we wanted.” FCL had already considered listing on the New York Stock Exchange but decided the market there was too small.
