‘Faggot’ is not insult —Judge
PA Auckland The police are being too sensitive if they believe the word “faggot” is insulting, a District Court judge says. When he appeared in the District Court in Auckland, a student, Richard Whittaker Hutton, aged 17, admitted a charge of using “faggot” with the intention of insulting a person. But Judge Hole dismissed the charge, saying that he did not think the word was insulting, and that the police were being overly sensitive. Sergeant Peter Hawke had told the Court that Hutton had yelled “faggot” at an undercover policeman early on Thursday morning.
