Mr McLay favoured
PA Auckland Mr Jim McLay was clear favourite yesterday when Radio Pacific asked talkback callers to give their National leadership preference. They were asked to exclude the former Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon.
Of 546 callers, Mr McLay was chosen by 311 (56.95 per cent); Mr Jim Bolger by 112 (20.69 per cent); Mr Derek Quigley by 32 (9.82 per cent); Mr Merv Wellington by 29 (5.35 per cent); Mr Doug Graham by 24 (4.39 per cent); and Mr Bill Birch by (0.54 per cent).
