Policy next week
Wellington reporter The Government has delayed again the release of its promised policy package to respond to problems in the farming industry. The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, said yesterday that the package should now be unveiled after the Government caucus meeting on December 12. He also confirmed that the policies would address broad economic issues rather than just immediate financial support for farmers in difficulty.
The package was expected early last month, before the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Moyle, left on an overseas trip.
The announcement was then postponed until the end of November because of the “complex and far-reaching” nature of the issues and the need for further work on them.
Mr Lange said the package would go before the Cabinet policy committee today and before the Cabinet on December 9.
