Work is well under way on a Post Office satellite earth-station near the Ashley forest hills, north of Itangiora. The 30-tonne 18m diameter satellite dish will channel signals to and from one of two satellites above the equator, due north of New Zealand. It will provide a new telecommunications link between the North and South Islands, and between New Zealand and other countries.
