Pokare scratched
Pokare was a late scratching from the L. A. Griffiths Handicap at Omoto yesterday. His Riccarton trainer, Michael Pitman, was given permission to withdraw the four-year-old after heavy rain turned the track into a quagmire. Pitman’s decision to scratch the gelding was also influenced by the fact that the horse’s engaged rider, John Dowling, had to return to Dunedin early yesterday afternoon because of a family bereavement.
