Becoming a nun?
Judith Fyfe looks into why some women choose to become nuns and take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, in “The Beginner’s Guide To Taking Your Vows” on One this evening. Would I have to spend all my life praying? asks Judith Fyfe. Once I get in, would I be allowed out? It must be a very disciplined life. Could I still watch TV, go to the pictures, wear make-up? What is this about getting
your hair shaved off? Would they give me a new name? By talking to nuns at various stages of commitment — from the Superior to a 20-year-old postulant (the first stage of training) - Judith Fyfe gets answers to these and other most-asked questions and finds out who can become a nun and how long it takes. She also makes a trip around a convent and discusses some of the orders in New Zealand.
