Mr Prebble for talks on shipping
PA Wellington The Minister of Transport, Mr Prebble, will attend meetings of the Cook Islands-Niue-New Zealand Joint Shipping Service and the Pacific Forum Line in Suva this week. The joint shipping service meeting will discuss the future of the service, which receives a New Zealand subsidy of several million dollars a year. “We will be reviewing costs and forecasts for growth in freight and it is an opportunity for me to hear direct the views of our partners on their shipping needs,” said Mr Prebble. The Pacific Forum Line meeting will be attended by representatives of most of the member States. “Questions to do with the shareholding of the company will be dealt with as will the appointment of directors. New Zealand will again nominate Mr Michael ffirschfield, chairman of the Shipping Corporation of New Zealand. “I intend to take the opportunity to discuss other shipping and aviation matters with Fijian Ministers and with other Pacific leaders,” Mr Prebble said.
