Posh present for Tina’s mum
rm not one to gossip, but Tina Turner really surprised her mum with a new $375,000 home in a posh •part of Los Angeles. She then turned around and spent a further $50,000 decorating it in the colours her mum loves. Jodi Foster has turned down an offer of millions to write her biography. The publishing house wanted her to concentrate on the Presidential assailant, John Hinkley and his infatuation with her, as well as her 1983 drug bust. She wrote them a letter, however, telling them that her life was her own business, and to push off — or words to that effect.
The pop star Madonna and her husband, Sean Penn, have had to change their telephone number five times since getting married. Somehow fans find their phone number and keep ringing it. Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson stepped out together for a Bruce Springsteen concert. The two were really liking the concert, but had to leave early as fans started to mob them.
Charlene Tilton late of “Dallas” and soon to return to the show by public demand, desperately wanted to play the part of screen siren, Lana Turner on an upcoming C.B.S. mini-series. She spent a small fortune on make-up artists and hairdressers and photographs showing her in Lana poses, but the producers of the soon-to-be-made series did not think she was good enough. I think that Lana Turner had a big say in the
production and didn’t really want little pint-sized Charlene Tilton for the part. Who knows who will get it. .. who really cares ... did I say that?
The ratings game in the United States is very big among the soapies, so “Dynasty” has come up with a new twist. A killer was introduced into the plot and is about to kidnap Krystal, played by Linda Evans, and will keep her prisoner in a love hide-away. As you know, George Hamilton has now joined the cast playing Joel Abrigore and he is going down a treat with the viewers as the new handsome bad guy, the guy they all love to hate. I spotted Joan Collins shopping on Rodayo Drive in Beverly Hills recently. The bodyguards were everywhere keeping anyone and everyone away. There is no doubt that Joan Collins is a super-
star. She acts every movement and the fans just lap it all up. Arnold Schwarzenegger is hoping that his latest movie for Fox will outsell "Rambo.” The difference, he says, will be the daring and very dangerous stunts he and his co-stars did themselves. There has never been any love lost between Sylvester Stallone and Schwarzenegger, and now With rival movies out I would think there will be even less!
I was eating in the cafe at Universal Studios recently and spoke with “Entertainment Tonight’s” Rona Barrett. That woman is as thin as a bean pole — in fact I don’t know if I have ever seen anyone so thin. And, of course, I’m not going to mention anything about face lifts, as I’m not one to gossip! Gene Hackman has a
romantic lead as a married steelworker who falls in love with Ann Margret in a movie called “Twice in a Lifetime.” This movie will mark the return of Ann Margret to the big screen, and it is the kind of movie
that could put them in the running for an Oscar contention for next year. Michael J. Fox has turned down a great offer to launch a new line of very trendy male fashions. “The Family Ties” star said he is really
not into the fashion bit right now. I think he looks neat and tidy on the show ... but my lips are sealed!
