Turner scores century

Lancaster Park opening batsman, Nicki Turner, scored 114 not out in fine fashion during her team’s women’s cricket fixture with St Albans on Saturday. Turner scored more than half her side’s total against the competition leader. Throughout the innings, she struck the ball impressively and stamped her authority on the game. Although enjoying only mixed fortunes in the field, St Albans effected four good run outs. Two of these were from accurate stump-shattering throws by Bridget Legg. Bowling for St Albans, Tracy McNamara took four for 33 in a tight pacy spell. In reply to Park’s 199, St Albans was 97 for two at stumps off 44 overs. Sarah Illingworth and Vicki Burtt batted attractively for St Albans but were generally contained by accurate bowling from Rebecca Millichip and Paula Woolhouse. In the second game at Porritt Park, Riccarton batted first against Sydenham. Although most batsmen got a start, none was able to put together a sizeable score. At the compulsory declaration it was six down for 112. Sue Brown and Sharon Weaver who both had marathon spells at the bowling crease did a splendid job for Sydenham restricting the scoring to 1.6 an over. Sydenham always looked sharp in the field. In its turn at batting, Sydenham also scored slowly with Toni Watts (18) and Vivienne Cowles (36 n. 0.) being the main contributors. It needs 35 runs off 11 overs for first innings points.
