Board concerned about scratchings
The New Zealand Sires’ Stakes board has expressed concern and dismay that the final heat of the Sires’ Stakes Series to be run at Addington Raceway today has been reduced to seven starters. In a statement, the boardsays that a field of 10 plus for emergencies was selected on withdrawal day. Board members felt that the attitude of some owners and trainers towards any obligation to start their horses was most unsatisfactory in view of the number
of eliminations from the original 27 horses nomin-“ ated. Some scratchings had been made because of injury or other reasonable circumstances, but the. board considered a number of the explanations offered., were unacceptable and de-' monstrated a somewhat ca-" valier attitude to the host" club and the sponsor. In view of the difficulties ■ the board would review the., conditions for future series at its annual meeting in. Christchurch on Thursday. ■*
