Taking a holiday — what about the video?
Planning a family trip for the coming holiday season? Here are some reminders about the care and protection of video equipment while you are away. If you are leaving your VCR in the house: • Make sure it cannot be seen from outside. • Disconnect it from the power source. • Cover it or store it in a suitable cabinet. If you do not wish to leave the VCR in the house: • Arrange for storage with a security firm; most offer an excellent service at modest cost and the peace of mind is worth having. ® Leave it with a friend who is fully conversant with the unit and its functions. ® Notify your insurance company of the arrangements if you have special cover on the unit.
If you plan to take the VCR with you:
9 Check on insurance arrangements. • Pack it in the original container. If you no longer have the carton and protective packaging, ask your retailer if he can help. • Make sure you plan the load to accommodate the unit in safety. • Check ahead with the hotel, motel or camp manager to ensure that you will be able to have the unit with you and that there will be access to software. Before you decide what you are going to do with your VCR, make sure that you are fully conversant with all the setting up and tuning requirements. Take time to learn how to do it without reference to the handbook so that you can get the full benefit from the unit —
