Man on firearm charge

After being forcibly removed from the Lancaster Park Hotel because of his behaviour, David Maxwell Crosbie, aged 21, a labourer, went to a friend’s car, took out a 12-gauge pumpaction shotgun, and returned to the bar where he proceeded to work the pump mechanism while pointing the firearm at hotel staff, said Sergeant W. J. McCormick in the District Court yesterday. Crosbie (Mr Erno Bedo), who admitted a charge of unlawfully presenting the shotgun at others, was convicted, by Judge McAloon and remanded on renewed bail to November 18 for a probation report and sentence.

While the police were making inquiries the defendant, and an associate, were seen in a vehicle trying to park opposite the hotel. The shotgun was found in this vehicle, said Sergeant McCormick, who sought forfeiture of the weapon to the police. Sergeant McCormick said he had been handed the defendant’s firearm licence.

He was unable to say, in response to a question from the Judge, whether there was any live ammunition involved.
