Council approves of restaurant plans
Plans for a new, 50-seat Chinese restaurant at the comer of Riccarton Road and Bartlett Street have been approved by the Riccarton Borough Council, subject to conditions.
The council wants the applicant, Mr J. Sew Hoy, to provide 16 off-street parking spaces, two more than he had planned. It also wants one-way entrance and exit driveways so that traffic goes to the restaurant from Riccarton Road but leaves
via Bartlett Street. The Canterbury United Council had objected to the restaurant because it felt it would create more traffic congestion on the already overloaded Riccarton Road. The council said that the restaurant’s hours of business, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., were at a time when traffic flows were low on Riccarton Road, so that any disruption would be outside peak times.
