Postage machines next year
PA Wellington Postage label vending machines will be introduced by the Post Office in some areas early next year, the Postmaster-General, Mr Hunt, said yesterday. The machines will have a full numeric key pad and will supply postage labels of any value between 1c and $99.99, he said.
Now on order from Swiss manufcaturers, they will be installed where customers can obtain postage labels during normal Post Office trading hours as well as after hours.
From 1909 until early 1982 the Post Office provided an after-hours stamp sales service from most post offices through mechanical stamp-vending machines.
Each stamp-vending machine could dispense stamps to the value of Ic, 2c, or sc. They were difficult to maintain in the latter years of service, Mr Hunt said.
