Owners subject of legal action

Two city commercial building owners will be the subject of legal action by the Christchurch City Council because their buildings do not meet fire escape standards.

They are Mr and Mrs A. Yee, of Oamaru, who own a three-storey building at 225 High Street, and Cash and Carry Poultry Marketing, which owns a building at 2 Winston Avenue. Both buildings need work on exterior fire escapes.

The High Street building is used for shops and a dance studio and the Winston Avenue building as a small factory.

Parking Parking requirements under the council’s District Scheme were waived for the new condominium building in Kilmore Street and a commercial development in Colombo Street. Councillors recommended the accepting of cash in lieu for six parking spaces that could not be provided in the Durham Towers development (30 parks will be provided) and for five parks that cannot be fitted on to a site at 817 Colombo Street. Cash in lieu for Durham Towers would be $32,400, and for the Colombo Street site, $34,100.
