Sir Alba top prospect
Special correspondent Dunedin Sir Alba has advanced in favour for the Speight’s Stakes at the Waikouaiti Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow with the scratching of seven of his rivals. Jack Smolensk! will take the drive on Sir Alba, with the colt’s regular driver, Richard Brosnan, committed to either Sossy or Trifecta. The reduction of the field to 11 horses should make it easier for Sir Alba to overcome his handicap of 20m. He won at Methven in September, coming from 20m to beat 15 others. He won at Addington at his previous start and he has managed two seconds and two thirds in four other starts this season. Ollie’s Chance is a smart filly which should give a good account. There was merit in her all-the-way win at Oamaru last Saturday in a Cl event She also won at Forbury Park last month. Skipper Dale is a readymade favourite for the Waikouaiti Cup. He- won easily at Oamaru last Saturday on a track that did not suit him. He won easily on grass at Methven and his quickness from the barrier should offset his 20m handicap.
