Special display of crafts features in show programme
A varied programme promises something for everyone at the Amberley Agricultural and Pastoral Association Show tomorrow. A new addition to the show will be a special marquee housing a craft works “It’s something for the public to look at while the craft and home industry sections are being judged,” said the president, Mr Alec McLean. “And it’s also a chance for different groups to exhibit their work to a large audience.” About six groups will be exhibiting work, including a pottery display from Omihi, china painting from Omihi and Waipara, exhibits from
the Amberley Art Club, spinning and craft displays, and a display from the Amberley tree nursery. Another highlight of the show will be a wood chopping contest between the North Canterbury Choppers Association and the Buller Wood Chopping Club. Buller .issued North Canterbury with the challenge, and the teams will be competing for a trophy, with chopping starting at about 10 a.m. and continuing throughout the day. As well as the usual machinery and implement displays, organisations and charities such as Trade Aid and The Diabetes Society will have stalls at the show.
The lamb drafting competition' is expected to attract a lot of interest from professional and amateur drafts people, and the grand parade, timed for 2.30 p.m., will bring all the winning competitors and livestock into the ring. The parade will be led by the president, Mr McLean, and vice-presidents, Mr H. Gardiner and Mr E. L. McGuchin, and the member of Parliament for the area, Mr Jim Gerard. McAlpines Brass Band will set the pace with music. The gates will be manned by the Omihi Lions Club and open at 6.30 a.m. Admission is $2 for an adult and 50 cents for children under 15.
