‘Precautionary’ landing
A Royal New Zealand Air Force plane from Wigram made a “precautionary” landing at the Ashburton airfield yesterday. The plane, an Airtrainer, was diverted to Ashburton from routine exercises after its trainee pilot reported that the engine was “running rough.”
The cause of the problem was not known and a maintenance team from Wigram was sent to examine it. An Air Force spokeswoman said that if the plane could not be flown back to Wigram it might have to be brought back by truck.
