Appeal raises $512,000
The annual Plunket-Kari-tane appeal has raised at least $512,584 this year.
The appeal, which ran from October 15 to 21, was up on last year’s total of $505,969. The final total will not be known for another three weeks, after donations left at chemists’ shops and from outlying areas have been counted. The total could reach $570,000. The appeal’s organiser, Mrs Shirley Cornish, said she was delighted with the response, particularly in view of the number of other
big appeals this year, such as Telethon and Live Aid for Africa. The money raised will be used by Plunket to help pay for expenses such as travel incurred by Plunket and Karitane nurses, and to equip clinics.
Provisional regional figures for the appeal (with last year’s total in brackets) are: Nelson-Marlborough, $24,209 ($22,008); Christchurch, $54,850 ($52,575); Timaru, $21,000 ($22,24uj.
