Bealey Avenue trees

Sir,—For too long citizens have had to witness the spiriting away of our avenues. This time Bealey Avenue is threatened again in the cause of the motor vehicle. It is time to put a stop to this and quickly. I only hope as many citizens as possible will object to having any modifications to the median strips along this last grand avenue of trees. One only has to observe what has happened to our other avenues — Rolleston, Moorhouse, and Fitzgerald are all now disaster areas. Bealey Avenue has ample room for improvements to enable widening on both sides by narrowing footpaths and providing flat channels. Let us all make it clear that we do not want to end up with another hotch-potch effect similar to the other avenues with fewer trees and ugly median strips. — Yours, etc., JOHN W. THACKER.
