Donor was ‘gay’
NZPA-AAP Sydney A Sydney court has refused to order the disclosure of the name of a blood donor who allegedly gave A.1.D.5.-contaminated blood.
In the Supreme Court yesterday Master Allen said that the blood donor’s right to privacy was more important than an A.I.D.S. victim’s need to know who gave the blood. An A.I.D.S. victim, Colin Bruce Loker, of Sydney, is suing St. Vincents Hospital and the Australian Red Cross Society for negligence.
He alleges that he contracted A.I.D.S. from a blood transfusion at the hos-
pital in July, 1983. His counsel had asked the Court to order the disclosure of the homosexual donor’s name because he might have more information that could help Mr Loker’s claim for damages.
