Meeting over power authorities
The chairman of the Local Government Commission, Mr Brian Elwood, will emphasise the directive of tbe Minister of Energy for restructuring the power Industry when he' meetsChristchurch councillors next week. Mr Elwood said yesterday;, that he would outline the options for reorganising Christchurch’s power supply to councillors and staff. He would not suggest a solution but would seek; intelligent consideration of the options. Unlike the local government reorganisation, the restructuring of the power industry had been set definite guiaelnes by the Minister of Energy, Mr Elwood said. “I wUI be making the Minister’s directive clear. He has said what he wants to happen in the electricity industry,” he said. The Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard, announced last month that he wants the 61 jower authorities in New Zealand amalgamated to about 20. Mr Elwood will meet representatives of Christchurch local authorities and power supply authorities at a meeting at the Canterbury Public Library on October 16. , ■ ' - '
