Too cramped, and dirty

NZPA staff correspondent London Many of the thousands of Britons who flock to Spain on package holidays each year return complaining about cramped and dirty hotels. They would get a lot ofsympathy from the New Zealand men’s hockey team, which arrived in Barcelona this week for the World Cup qualifying tournament. The New Zealand coach, Trevor Blake, said the team’s accommodation was, "probably about as bad as we've ever been in.” We’ve been crammed in three to a room which would normally only hold

about a single bed — people are virtually sleeping cheek to cheek,” he said. “The condition of the rooms is, well, I suppose you could say it is dirty. I’d hate to be the vacuum cleaner that goes under my bed. In fact, I don’t think there’s been one under it for 20 years. ' “The meals are OK but very repetitive. It would be very, very low class boarding house material ,in New Zealand.”, All but . one of the 12 countries at. the tournament are staying in the hotel. Proving that a little local knowledge goes a long way, the Spanish team has camped elsewhere.
