TO REGISTERED PRACTISING ARCHITECTS HAMILTON CITY COUNCIL is intending to build, as part of its civic centre redevelopment, a new central public library. This structure will require to be Integrated with the underground carpark currently under construction (which has been designed with the library in mind) and with other commercial development intended to proceed on the site. Architects wishing to be considered for the library commission are invited to register their interest with Council, together with a resume of the practice’s structure and its ability to fully design and supervise a project of this type and magnitude which is likely to exceed $7 million. Examples of previous completed work, not necessarily in the library field, should be included as evidence of design flexibility and previous experience. The Council, in conjunction with the WaikatoBay of Plenty branch of the NZIA, will prepare a shortlist of up to five suitably qualified architects. This group will then be Invited for sketch designs and/or ideas for the library in accordance with the design brief, and to explain their schemes in person to the Council. No fee will be payable except to the successful designer.
