The appointment of a successor will be made in terms of Section 29 of the State Services Act 1962. The Position: The successful applicant will be the chief advisor to the Minister of Energy on all matters relating to the identification of indigenous energy resources, the management of those resources and the supply and demand for energy. The post is also responsible for research and development, conservation, licensing and the regulation of the energy sector. At present the production and supply of electricity and coal are included in the duties of the Secretary of Energy. The Government is, however, currently investigating the feasibility of taking these functions out of the Public Service and, if this occurs, they will cease to be part of the Secretary of Energy’s responsibilities. The Person: The Commission is seeking a person to fill this post who has already demonstrated competence at a senior level in a technically oriented organisation. They should have well-devel-oped management skills, an ability to understand and succeed in a technical organisation and an ability to lead a group of professions from different disciplines towards common goals. Applicants should have had broad managerial experience at a senior level and ideally this experience wijl be across a number of the work areas listed GENERAL MANAGER PRODUCTION THE APPOINTEE will be responsible for management of the Production Group to ensure the generation and transmission of bulk electricity within New Zealand to supply authorities and authorised customers. Applicants should have had comprehensive experience, including some years at senior management level, in electricity generation and transmission. GENERAL MANAGER PROJECTS THE APPOINTEE will be responsible for management of the Projects Group to ensure the efficient and safe design, construction and commissioning of generating and transmission facilities while having continual regard for environment Issues. Applicants should have a comprehensive background in the engineering industry, including some years at senior management level in the field of design, construction and commissioning of facilities involving heavy electrical and/or mechanical plant.
