M. Thornley suspended
PA Timaru Maurice Thornley was suspended at the Timaru Racing Club meeting yesterday for wilfully breaking a riding engagement. Thornley, declared as the rider of Double Time in the Satterthwaites Maiden, elected to leave the course early to travel south to Winton. He broke his engagement for Double Time and was charged with the offence. The committee was unanimous that Thornley had wilfully broken the engagement and suspended him from race riding from the end of the day’s racing at Winton today until October 19.
