Show Kipp wins workout
Ashburton reporter Show Kipp, a form runner for the Mitre Tavern Supporters Pace at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s meeting today, posted 3min 16s for 2400 m at the Ashburton workouts on Thursday. Most drivers were not out for fast , times, however, the open class trotter, Simon Katz, went 3min 15.2 s for Dick Prendergast, and was never pushed at any stage. His win was helped when Loyal Step broke while leading into the final 100 m for Patrick O’Reilly. Simon Katz came off her back with 150 m to run and was. cruising up to the pacemaker when she broke. Hilderbrand, which was in the open throughout, ran on for second, with Loyal Step crossing the line in a break and Dawn Lady coming on well for John Scott to finish fourth.
Memorlue, Whoopie and Chief Decision, racing freelegged, were impressive winners in the unqualified section, with the former making the leaders look very ordinary with a burst of speed over the last 100 m after being late getting off
