Macquarie, N.S.W. : ■ • The last-minute entry, Barney St George, outsprinted a class field to give Australia its first stage win yesterday in the Commonwealth- Bank Brisbane-to-Sydney cycle classic. St George. (N.S.W.-Tooheys-Rbn Bates. cycles) was told two days before the race that he had been hoisted into his state team to contest the prestige event.
