Granite paving slabs are laid on the floor of the Whitcoulls store in Cashel Street by Mr Brian Smith, a contractor with the Canterbury Stone Company, Ltd. The store is undergoing a $1.5 million facelift. While the strengthening and modernising of the building is being done, the company’s main retail business continues in temporary premises in the former Farmers’ Trading Company building between Worcester Street and Gloucester Street. Whitcoulls expect to move back to the renovated Cashel Street shop during Labour Week-end and to open for business on October 29.
