A.I.D.S. publicity

Sir,—Varian J. Wilson says “the martyred founder” of the A.I.D.S. Support Network, Bruce Burnett, “did not reveal to gays with whom he stayed” that he was suffering from A.I.D.S. (“The Press,” August 15). Those like me who took Bruce into their homes were under no misapprehensions. He insisted the risks be clearly understood and ensured he would not pass on infection. All knew he was fighting a very personal battle with the disease. I was'a friend of Bruce. I knew him from childhood. He was a man of honour who contributed a great deal more to the world than, regrettably, he lived to capitalise on. Without substantiation and for reasons I can only guess at, Mr Wilson chose to cast a slur on a dead man — a slur he could not safely cast if Bruce were alive. Whatever Mr Wilson’s views on homosexuality, he does them no credit with unsourced personal attacks. Perhaps he would care to name his authorities?—Yours, etc., KEITH L. CRUMP. Wellington, August 15, 1985.
