South Pacific nuclearfree zone

Sir,—l see from “The Press” (August 12) that Greenpeace says it is unrealistic to think the treaty declaring the South Pacific a nuclear-free zone will have any real effect. These hard-headed workers for peace have rightly summed it up. Indeed for all Mr Lange’s posturing on the world political stage, the South Pacific NuclearFree Zone Treaty is the biggest non-event since the signing of the Kellog Pact which outlawed war as an instrument of policy in the early 19305, and was signed by Germany. — Yours, etc., H. F. NEWMAN. August 12, 1985.
