Way up front among the new names and faces in Hollywood is singer-actor-songwriter, Curt Harpel. He has performed his own works in and around the new wave clubs in Los Angeles. Two of the biggest music and video companies are now negotiating a contract with him. Harpel was a popular young star on the soapie, “All My Children,” which does not screen in New Zealand, but has a giant following in the United States. This 25-year-old, who lives in the Hollywood hills, is about to become a star. Already he has played Jesus in “Jesus Christ Super Star,” starred in “Godspell” and “Pippen,” not to mention his appearances at the world famous “Studio 54.” The best line of the week must surely got to David Frost’s wife, Lady Carina Fitzalah Howard, when she was asked if Frost was religious. She replied: “Yes, he thinks he’s God.” Kate Jackson refused to film a segment of “Scarecrow and Mrs King” simply because the camera was aimed at the left side of her face. She hates that side of her face and will only be photographed from the right side or straight on. Filming started again when a new contract was written stating the fact. Fitness guru, Richard Simmons, gave himself a big thirty-seventh birthday party which set him back a cool $30,000 — and that was just for the airfares for a few really good friends. The supper account came to a mere $40,000. They had lobster and chicken with fresh kiwifruit flown in from New Zealand that morning. Former Beatles Ringo Starr and George Harrison flatly refused to join Paul McCartney for the Live Aid concert. McCartney is really made about it saying he will
never speak to either of them again. The reason was that both Starr and Harrison are afraid someone might attack them on stage, or could it be that they both might be a little too rusty to play live in front of millions. Farrah Fawcett and her love child were nowhere to be seen when Ryan O’Neal and his ex-wife, Leigh Tay-lor-Young, turned up together at their son Patrick’s high school graduation. I hear that O’Neal has moved out of the love nest, leaving Farrah Fawcett and child behind, but next week could be a different story. Gina Lollobrigida was over the moon when a young man returned a
$40,000 diamond ring she had left in an airline’s rest room. She brought the man
lunch and took him shopping at the duty free store, buying him a Walkman tape player for his honesty. I must tell you about a great book just out in New Zealand. It is called “Not Many People Know That!” written by actor, Michael Caine. It is full of interesting facts and figures, and some very interesting gossip. Catherine Oxenberg is a model actress, but now she has been cast as a real dummy. The “Dynasty” princess is being used as the perfect model for a series of shop window mannequins both in Britain and the United States. Dapper George Hamilton struck it rich at a recent visit to a Lake Tahoe casino with a payout of $90,000. He is now thinking of buying a new pad in Beverley Hills and another one in France. God bless the Lake Tahoe casino and Lady Luck! And that’s Hollywood for this week!
