BEST BETS
FRIDAY AUCKLAND POPPA LUIGI (Race 8), b g, 4yrs, by Mercedes —Mama Luigi; trained at Pukekohe by G. A. Reaks. A model of consistency, having yet to finish further back than fourth, he is favourably drawn in this to record his third win in 10 career starts. SATURDAY FOXTON ROYAL MINT (Race 1), b h, t 6yrs, by Bally Royal-Lucky Gem; trained at Awapuni by E. Temperton. Only failed by a nose to beat Cobham at Levin last week. Should go one better here.
NEW ZEALAND METRO LADY EL (Race 10), b m, 6yrs, by El Patron—Lady Moose; trained at West Melton by R. D. Butt. Struck a solid patch of form late last season and looked improved at recent trials. Awkwardly drawn, but should still master this field. WAIKATO SCOTCH PRINCE (Race 1), b g, 6yrs, by Harbor PrinceScotch Belle; trained at Tuhikaramea by G. A. Rogerson. Dashing hurdler which appears well placed to add to his record tomorrow.
